Who is this writing guide for?
TLDR: It's for anyone interested in using words to make friends and to make change.
I’m writing a series of posts on ‘copywriting for community builders.’
But before you subscribe you probably want to know whether it’s worth your time. So here is a brief description on who I’m writing the newsletter for.
It’s a copywriting guide:
for change makers
for human beings
for beginners
for connectors
A guide for change makers
There are lots of ways to make change happen. But there aren’t many better than the written word. And we’re all seeking some form of change right? To take someone from point A to point B.
Sometimes that change is an action or behaviour (buy my product, subscribe to my newsletter, come to my event).
But every time the change is emotional. The reader arrives at your words feeling one way and after reading they feel something different. You leave them transformed. That’s the goal.
A guide for human beings
‘Watch out - the robots are coming!’. They are coming. But you’re only under threat if you write like a robot. This guide will help you write like you. To write the things only you can write.
There are a gazillion people who can help you use AI. And you should use AI. But use it as a supplement, not a substitute. If it’s replacing you then you’re not writing right. You’re certainly not writing like only you can.
A guide for beginners
This guide is aimed at beginners. Though I do sometimes think we all need to go back to the beginning every now and again.
Perhaps you’d like to improve your writing but you don’t know where to start? Or you find most of the advice out there a bit clever for its own good? If so then you’re in the write place.
(Yes I’m afraid that was intentional).
A guide for connectors
‘We read to know we’re not alone’ CS Lewis.
Reading and writing is a bit like a dance between the reader and writer. It goes like this:
-> I express something in me and share it with the world.
-> You respond and say, ‘me too!’
-> And look what happened. You and I are friends.
(Well, internet friends. Which is friends of a kind I suppose.)
Writing can be viewed merely as a way to transfer information. Or it can be used as a way to connect with people. Both are helpful, but the emphasis on this newsletter is the latter.
I hope it lives up to that billing.
But if not, then please obviously feel free to unsubscribe at any point!! I promise not to take it personally and to avoid all social awkwardness if we meet out there in the real world :)
Peace and love,
Jamie
